I’ve been a teacher for 23 years and in that time I’ve seen National educational goals designed to be sure that EVERY child is prepared to go to college, that no child will be left behind, blah, blah, blah …

Most of the educators I know, both elementary and secondary, think that something that American education sorely needs is more vocational education.  We see kids in our classrooms that are smart, but for whom college just isn’t the right path.  This PBS Newshour story on How Germany Became Europe’s Richest Country, while uniquely German, illustrates how vocational education is built into the German system.  It’s a really interesting piece and very much worth a watch!

Just raising the mandatory attendance age for American teenagers really isn’t going to solve that which ails education in America.
