  1. I will say that marriage is a religious institution and that the government should have nothing to do with it, be it straight, gay, or plural.
    Civil unions are a different matter and a states rights issue.

  2. I very much agree and it is a proposal that I've actually posted about before (but I don't tag my posts and I can't find it now … gah!!!). There was a really good LA Times editorial advocating just that. Have gov't get out of the "marriage" business and just issue EVERYONE certificates of civil union. People can then get married in a church or other religious institution that works for them … Would seem to clean up a lot of mess, huh?
