I just finished watching the finals of the duet competition in synchronized swimming from the Water Cube. Now, I don't mean to be stupid, but I don't know anything about synchronized swimming and something that was said confused me greatly. Apparently there is a "solo" competition in synchronized swimming. How does a swimmer synchronize with herself??? Am I the only one who is confused by this concept?
Confusion aside, the sport is pretty cool to watch!!! I can't figure out how they are able to synchronize with each other while holding their breaths and swimming upside down. Pretty cool!!!
By the way, did you ever see the Martin Short skit on Saturday Night Live when he played a synchronized swimmer wearing a life jacket in the pool? It's a classic!!!
Update: Thanks to Jan, who was able to find the clip, here's the skit!!!
I remember that – it was a hoot! Do you remember who his partner was? Harry Shearer. He may not look familiar but he should sound familiar if you ever watch "The Simpsons" – he voices Mr. Burns, Principal Skinner, Ned Flanders, Reverend Lovejoy, and some others. But Martin Short was so great – lifejacket, swim cap, that nose thing, and that goofy, "I don't swim". I didn't see it on YouTube but found it here if you want to see it again: http://is.gd/1MUF.
OMG!!! Thanks for sending this link my way!!! You're the BEST!!! 🙂
