on city life and birthdays forgotten …

We’re in the Big Apple.  We flew into LaGuardia after our hour-and-a-half layover in Houston became a three-and-a-half hour delay due to heavy air traffic in New York airspace.  Because we have more time than money, S/O and I took the subway all the way into our place in Brooklyn which was an additional two-hour proposition, but in the end it was all fine.

This morning we got up and had a nice breakfast at a little coffee stand down the block and then we headed into the city for the day.  We went to Canal Street in Chinatown to do some bargain hunting.  Since we were in Chinatown, we decided to stop in for some dim sum at the Golden Bridge Restaurant.

If there is ever a doubt about how many Chinese people there are in the world (or at least in NYC) head over to the Golden Bridge!!!  The place is enormous and seats 892 people (I assume, based on the fire occupancy sign in the front lobby).  The place was packed so we ended up being seated at a big round table with three young girls and an old Chinese couple.  The old couple didn’t speak much English and just ignored us, but the three young women were fashion design students at Parsons and we had a good time chatting with them over lunch.

After lunch, we spent the afternoon walking up Broadway popping into the shops and stores along he way.  We stopped in at the Derek Jeter 24-Hour Fitness Club that is due to open any day now.  S/O and I can use our memberships to workout there so we’re hoping that they can get their NYC occupancy permit that will allow them to open for business in the next day or two.

Finally, after a long day of walking we decided to stop in and have an early bird dinner special at the Dallas BBQ Grill.  $9.99 for dinner for TWO!!!   Chinese guy says, “YAHOO!!!”  Dinner included soup, half-a-chicken (honey glazed) yellow rice, and corn bread.

At the end of the night, S/O reminded threw a hint and I realized that … “I FORGOT THAT TODAY WAS S/O’S BIRTHDAY!!!”  Crap, crap, crap on me!!!  I suck!!!  Luckily, S/O isn’t a big birthday freak so S/O was very cool about everything.

It was a great day … I hope it was a happy birthday!!!

P.S. I didn't have my camera on me and my Motorola Phone Tools software won't let me download the pics from my cell phone so, sadly, these aren't my pictures (though, their probably a lot better than my crappy phone camera pics …)
